The Spanish Ministry of Health has launched the roadmap “Work and Mental Health”, a technical report recognizing the key role of employment conditions in the mental well-being of the population. The document outlines strategies to prevent, detect, and respond to mental health disorders linked to precarious, insecure, or harmful working environments.
We are proud to highlight the contribution of Dr. José Luis Ayuso, from the WHO Collaborating Centre at the Autonomous University of Madrid, to the development of this initiative. His involvement supports the creation of evidence-informed public policies for healthier and fairer workplaces.
“Recognizing the impact of the work environment on mental health is essential for advancing a more preventive, person-centered approach,” says Dr. Ayuso. “This roadmap lays the groundwork for a structural change in how we understand and address work-related psychological distress.”
This roadmap lays the foundation for upcoming technical documents, training activities, and coordination mechanisms to better address mental suffering related to work.
