DESCRIPTION: MARIDE (Study of Peripheral Markers of Oxidative Stress and Inflammation in Major Depressive Disorder) began in 2016. It is a project funded by the Carlos III Health Institute and FEDER funds, and coordinated by Dr. Pilar López.
MARIDE is a study with a cross-sectional design for investigating peripheral inflammatory markers and oxidative stress in a group of patients with major depressive disorder and in a control group of healthy subjects. It is part of the search for biological markers of major depressive disorder (MDD) from the neuroinflammatory hypothesis and recent findings on alterations in oxidative stress in depression.
The goals of the project are to compare the marker levels in both groups, to study the relationships between these markers, and the activation levels of the transcription factor Nrf2, and to study the relationships between the oxidative stress levels in patients with MDD and clinical variables such as severity and resistance to treatment.
